26 Sep - While studios would usually unveil the release date of their new movie, Indian superstar Rajinikanth recently announced ahead of time that his new movie, "Jailer 2" will be released in June next year.

The news was shared by the actor with the media and fans awaiting him as he returned to Chennai, saying that the film will be coming out 12 June 2026.

It is noted that Rajinikanth was filming near Palakkad, Kerala prior to his return, where he reportedly shot the grand climax sequence for the movie. The actor was also welcomed by a sea of fans while he was in the city.

The sequel is helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar again, with Rajinikanth reprising his role as Muthuvel Pandian. He is joined by old faces Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa, while new additions to the cast include SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Anna Rajan.

The first film, released in 2023, had a mixed responses but still emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023.
