19 Dec - It looks like the Academy Awards is going online beginning 2029, as the right of broadcasting the awards has now been given to YouTube.

On 17 December, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this piece of news, saying that the ceremony, which has been broadcasted by ABC since 1976, will be aired on YouTube beginning 2029 through at least 2033.

For the meantime, ABC will continue airing the awards until its 100th edition in 2028.

As part of the new deal, YouTube will broadcast not only the ceremony itself, but also a significant amount of related content. This includes the red carpet preshow, the Oscar nominations announcement, the Governors Awards, the Oscars Nominees Luncheon, as well as filmmaker interviews.

Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube expressed, "The Oscars are one of our essential cultural institutions, honouring excellence in storytelling and artistry. Partnering with the Academy to bring this celebration of art and entertainment to viewers all over the world will inspire a new generation of creativity and film lovers while staying true to the Oscars' storied legacy."
