The news of the Oscar-winning director's passing was confirmed by his publicist, Cindi Berger, stating, "Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah, the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly."

"The family requests privacy," she added.

Born in 1936, Redford started his career in television through shows like "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "The Twilight Zone". He had since won various accolades including an Academy Award (for his directorial debut "Ordinary People"), a BAFTA Award and five Golden Globe Awards.

Redford was also known for his environmentalism work, leading efforts to preserve the natural landscape of Utah and the American West since the 1960s.

He was 89.
