18 Aug- English actor Terence Stamp, most known for his role in the "Superman" films, has recently passed away.

The news was announced by his family, saying that the actor passed away on the morning of 17 August.

"He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come. We ask for privacy at this sad time," they said.

The actor, born in July 1938, was best known for playing General Zod in "Superman" (1978) and "Superman II" (1980). Among his other works include 1994's "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", 1999's "The Limey", and "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children".

He was also the voice of several video games including "The Getaway: Black Monday" and "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion".

He was last seen in the Edgar Wright-helmed "Last Night in Soho", playing the role of the silver-haired gentleman.

He was 87
