"Coco 2" set for 2029

17 Aug - Nine years after the first film, Disney revealed that it is currently developing the sequel to its 2017 animated feature, "Coco".

The news was announced at the D23 event by Benjamin Bratt, who voiced the character of the villain Ernesto de la Cruz in the first film, and joked, "Ernesto de la Cruz is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the Land of the Dead."

It is noted that the news of "Coco 2" was first announced by former Disney CEO Bob Iger last year, saying that the movie is scheduled for a 2029 release.

The upcoming will bring back the previous team, which included directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina.

The original movie tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a musician like his idol, the legendary performer Ernesto de la Cruz. However, things change after he is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead.

Anthony Gonzalez voiced the character Miguel, while Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal played Papá Hector, a charming trickster and Miguel's late great-great-grandfather in the Land of the Dead.
