22 Jun - Netflix emerged victorious in getting the feature film rights for "Sesame Street," following a bidding war with Universal.

It was reported that the streaming giant was previously in a three-way bid war with Universal and Warner Bros, before the latter opted out.

Universal had Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert - the directors of "Everything Everywhere All At Once" - attached to produce. Netflix, which had acquired the TV rights to the franchise in May last year, finally won the bid

The upcoming film project will be produced by Rideback (formerly Lin Pictures until 2018), which produced "The Lego Movie" franchise, "It" films and "Lilo & Stitch".

Sesame Street, the children's programme that had been on air since 1969, has had two big screen adaptations in 1985 ("Follow That Bird") and in 1999 ("The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland").
