8 Jun - It looks like teenage moviegoers eager to watch Christopher Nolan's new movie may need to bring along an adult.

It was revealed that the filmmaker's upcoming adaptation of Homer's epic, "The Odyssey," has officially received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association. R rating means viewers under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, indicating that the epic is not for the faint-hearted.

While there has been no information as to why the rating was given, it could be due to the film's intense battle sequences and mythological violence.

It is noted that Nolan is no stranger to the R-rating, as his previous film, "Oppenheimer," opened during the summer season with the same rating and went on to earn nearly USD 1 billion worldwide.

"The Odyssey" reportedly carries a massive USD 250 million budget, making it one of the most expensive R-rated productions ever made, surpassing films such as Warner Bros.' "Joker: Folie à Deux" and Marvel's "Deadpool & Wolverine."

The movie, which stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Anne Hathaway among others, is set to be released in theatres on 17 July.
