5 Aug – Cinema Online "Southpaw" contest winners got to watch Jake Gyllenhaal in action two days earlier than the movie's official release date on 6 August 2015. The first prize of the online contest included a one-month gym membership for Celebrity Fitness and a pair of movie passes. The second prize included one Everlast cash vouchers and a pair of movie passes, meanwhile the third prize included a "Southpaw" original CD soundtrack and a pair of movie passes. Consolation prize winners managed to snag some movie passes. "Initially I joined just to try my luck, but I was so excited when I found out that I won the tickets!" said one of the winners, Darren Chee Kok Mun. "I hope that the movie will have some good fight scenes."
Most of the winners present admitted that they're big fans of boxing movies, which is why they joined the contest in the first place. Lim Sin Heng said that he hopes the movie will be as good as the Dante Lam boxing movie "Unbeatable", starring Nick Cheung and Eddie Peng.
Another winner, Betty Liew Siaw Fun who is also a Muay Thai martial arts practitioner herself, said that she hopes to learn some new skills from it.
"Southpaw" is a sports drama following boxing champion Billy Hope, who is asked by his wife to quit boxing so that he can spend more quality time with his daughter. After quitting boxing, his wife is accidentally killed in an argument with another boxer, and Billy's life is ruined further when he can't get the custody of his daughter. Thus, Billy decides to return to the boxing world so that he can reunite with his daughter. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris and Forest Whitaker. "Southpaw" will be released in cinemas nationwide on 6 August 2015.
