GSC's 25th anniversary rollouts

2012 is also the year Golden Screen Cinemas turns 25. In conjunction with GSC's 25th anniversary, GSC Paradigm Mall and GSC Setia City Mall opened on the same date as twins sharing the '25th opening' together. Also as part of their 25th anniversary series of launches, GSC introduced GSC Lite, a low frills concept catered to smaller towns which it claims doesn't compromise much on the big screen effects including digital projection and 3D facilities, with its first in Mentakab Star Mall.

TGV Cinemas 1 Utama has the second IMAX theatre in Malaysia.

Wider variety of halls and seats

Launched in time for the release of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2", TGV Cinemas Setia Walk boasts nine halls, one of them being a Beanieplex hall. It is also at this outlet that 3D-X projection system was introduced. Aside from TGV Setia Walk, TGV also relaunched their cinema in 1 Utama with eight new digital halls including one IMAX theatre and one Beanieplex hall, providing moviegoers with another option as these facilities were only available in TGV Sunway Pyramid previously. However, the second TGV location to offer moviegoers Beanieplex and TGV Club halls after Sunway Pyramid is incidentally, TGV Cinemas Bukit Indah in Johor Bahru, which is its 17th outlet, in conjunction with TGV's 17th anniversary.

Aside from TGV, MBO also provided moviegoers with a wider variety of halls and seats with their first kid-themed cinema outlet, with a colourful concept design featuring the likes of popular Nursery Rhymes and toys like Lego and Alphabet Blocks.

MBO Citta Mall boasts a rare, kiddy-themed cinema outlet.

The only cinema in town

Cinemas that opened in 2012 that are the only cinema in their towns is GSC Mentakab Star Mall for being the only GSC Lite outlet, and GSC Amanjaya Mall, the latter replacing GSC Central Square on 31 October 2012.
