5 reasons to get hyped for "Kingsman: The Golden Circle"

"Kingsman: The Secret Service" was a surprise hit in 2014, grossing over USD 410 million at the worldwide box office against a USD 80 plus million budget.

That was an impressive feat for a 18-rated spy comedy that made fun of James Bond movies. Thanks to the huge success of the first movie, the Kingsman agents are now back for this year's highly-anticipated sequel. The buzz has been strong so far and with the impending release of "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" set to arrive this 21 September, here are the 5 reasons to get hyped for the sequel.

1. The return of Colin Firth

Yes, Colin Firth is back and he's alive in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle". (we think?)

Colin Firth's Harry Hart was no doubt one of the key characters that helped glue the first "Kingsman" movie together. His suave personality and the way he takes down the bad guys, particularly the now-iconic church massacre scene was the movie's major highlight. Fans love him but then, Matthew Vaughn and his co-screenwriter Jane Goldman pulled off a shocking upset: He was shot in the face by the evil Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson)! If you are one of the fans disappointed by his death in the first movie, rest assured he's back in the sequel. But here lies the question: How is that possible? Does the eye patch that he wears over one of his eye seen in the trailers indicated something? Whatever the reason turns out to be, it's nice to see Colin Firth's return in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle". What's more, he'll be fighting side by side with his protege, Eggsy (Taron Egerton).

2. Taron Egerton takes the lead as the gentleman spy

Taron Egerton returns as Eggsy in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle".

In the first "Kingsman" movie, Colin Firth's Harry Hart is pretty much a scene-stealer. Taron Egerton who plays the street kid-turned-spy recruit Eggsy plays the second fiddle, even though he has his fair share of moments, especially during his final fight against the blade-footed Gazelle (Sofia Boutella). Now that he's already graduated to become a full-fledged Kingsman agent towards the end of the first movie, fans of his Eggsy character will be happy to see him taking charge as the leading gentleman spy in the sequel.

3. The all-star introduction of Statesman

Channing Tatum as the shotgun-toting Agent Tequila and Halle Berry as Ginger Ale in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle".

Whereas the British secret agents represents the Kingsman, the sequel adds more colour by introducing the American-based Statesman agents. The aforementioned agents include Channing Tatum as the shotgun-toting Agent Tequila and Pedro Pascal as the six-shooter and whip-ready Agent Whiskey. Joining the rest of the Statesman crew are Halle Berry as the techie Ginger Ale and Jeff Bridges as the leader Champagne. Judging by the all-star cast of the Statesman itself, this is going to be fun.

4. More over-the-top action sequences

Agent Whiskey (Pedro Pascal) has his unique way of using his six-shooters against
the bad guys in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle".

The "Kingsman" franchise is obviously a send-up of James Bond movies. As evidently seen in the first movie's gleefully over-the-top action sequences that doesn't shy away from graphic violence and gore, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" will continue in the same trend. For instance, the nighttime car chase scene across the streets of London looks like it's going to be one of the most exciting highlights in the action department.

5. Julianne Moore is the sequel's big bad villain

Julianne Moore plays the villainous Poppy Adams in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle".

Move over, Samuel L. Jackson. "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" now has a brand new antagonist in the form of Julianne Moore as the sequel's main villain, Poppy Adams. The Oscar-winning actress, who won her biggest accolade in 2014's "Still Alice" as an Alzheimer's patient, is undoubtedly an interesting addition in the "Kingsman" sequel. Remember how she pulled off an impressive performance as the cold-hearted antagonist President Alma Coin in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" two-part finale? If Moore plays her cards right, her appearance in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" will make the sequel all the more wickedly entertaining to watch for.

"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" opens in cinemas nationwide on 21 September 2017.
