Hong Kong star Andy Lau was recently in Malaysia to promote their upcoming action thriller, "Firestorm". Here is the conversation we had at the press interview with the man himself on 3 December at the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur. Cinema Online's interview with Andy Lau was conducted on 3 December at The Ritz Carlton. Q: What attracted you to the role of Inspector Lui in this film? I think it's because this character is easy to portray. He's a very strict and very straightforward person who believes that everything is black and white. There's no grey area. He thinks he can maintain the same principles the whole time until one day he gets caught in a difficult situation where he is forced to make a tough choice. I think in real life, there comes a time where everybody will be facing the similar situation here. Q: Is this movie based on your own idea? No, it's based on my director's (Alan Yuen) idea because he is also a screenwriter himself. Q: So, is there any scene you find it difficult to perform? Well, I don't think there is a difficult scene for me, because everything in this movie is well prepared. You see, I'm a very honest person. Whether I can perform a certain scene or not, I will say to them I can do it. Otherwise, I'll say I can't. So basically, in this movie, I find it a comfortable process.
Q: Do you have any favourite scene in this movie? To me, I would say it's the ending scene. I mean, I have never experienced such scenes staged in a Hong Kong movie production before. Q: Judging by the open ending in "Firestorm", will there be a "Firestorm" sequel in the future? That depends on my boss, William Kong (producer for the movie), on whether he wants to make "Firestorm 2" and so on. But what's more important right now is to concentrate on what we have accomplished in this current movie. Q: If there's a Chinese version of "The Expendables", will you consider playing in the movie? Uh... I think you better ask the director. I mean, if I'm being offered a role like that, of course I will want to take part. Q: Have you ever considered acting in a Hollywood movie? (Laughs) Well, I guess I have to improve my English first. Q: What will be your next project after "Firestorm"? It's not confirmed yet but for now, I would like to take a three-month break. "Firestorm" opens in cinemas nationwide on 12 December.
