8 May - Local stars Que Haidar and Fasha Sandha have brushed off criticisms and rumours about their 'special appearance' in the Indonesian movie, "Badai Pasti Berlalu", as part of the film-making process.

They told a press conference recently that they had never expected the kind of bombardment they would receive after the movie was screened at Indonesian cinemas. Que Haidar, who plays Hanif in the movie, appears in only three scenes with a few simple lines, while Fasha appears in a flashback that lasts only a few seconds, without any dialogue.

Many of their fans were angry and disappointed by this. Also, Fasha was rumoured to be doing a steamy scene in bed with a male actor.

Que Haidar said he is satisfied with the outcome of "Badai Pasti Berlalu". "I don't agree with people saying that our talent is wasted by appearing in this movie. We actually acted in many scenes but they were edited. As a professional actor, I accept that because this is normal in film production."

Fasha also couldn't understand why the scene she played as an antagonist between Chris and Siska became a big issue. "As you can see for yourself, there's nothing wrong with the scene. I know my boundaries in scenes involving sensitive issues," she said. "When I accepted this role, I was told that I'm going to play a minor character. I don't feel any regret even though (the scene) was only a few seconds. Remember the late Marlon Brando in "Apocalypse Now"? He was a great actor but he agreed to take the role of Colonel Kurtz which was only in a few scenes."

If Fasha's romantic scene was only acting, there was real-life romance on the set of "Badai Pasti Berlalu". Siti Raihaanun, who played the tormented Siska, married director Teddy Soeriatmadja last March in a quiet ceremony sans the media.

"We knew each other for a long time but romance blossomed on the set of "Badai Pasti Berlalu," said Raihaanun, who is well known in Indonesia for her soap operas, music videos and advertisements. "Badai Pasti Berlalu" is her film debut and already she has been nominated for Best Newcomer at the Indonesian Movie Awards 2007. "I was nervous and yet I feel honoured since the original Siska was played by one of Indonesia's greatest actresses, Christine Hakim. Many viewers compared us but luckily I'm getting good response from the audience."

"Badai Pasti Berlalu" is a remake of 1977 movie based on a best-selling novel by Marga T. It stars Raihaanun, Vino G. Bastian, Winky Wiryawan, Slamet Rahardjo (who played Helmi in the 1977 version).
