"Love" is Malaysian effort, Indonesian cast

2 Apr – Kabir Bhatia, the director behind "Love", insists that the film is nothing short of 'Malaysian' even though it features a star-studded cast consisting of Indonesia's most well known actors. The movie, which stars recognisable names like Acha Septriasa, Irwansyah, Luna Maya and Wulan Guritno among others, is "a Malaysian film, starring an Indonesian cast".

Inspiration for "Love" mainly came from the award-winning 2006 Malaysian film "Cinta", which Bhatia also directed. Following its success, he took the story and set it upon a different backdrop – Indonesia, to be exact – and translated the title into English. The reason why he focused on Indonesia was because he is convinced the Indonesian market would welcome a movie of this genre and formula.
Kabir Bhatia: "It's a Malaysian film, starring an Indonesian cast." Fadzil Manap: "We don't want our neighbours to miss out."
Fadzil Manap, Senior Manager of Grand Brilliance, said, "To prepare the cast for the shooting, we made them watch ‘Cinta' beforehand, and they couldn't believe it was a Malaysian movie. That was why it's vital for us to share our success."

He further explained, "We've done so much research into the Indonesian market, and compared it with our own. Of all the movies we reviewed, 'Cinta' was the only one that had all the qualities of a great film that can be marketed in Indonesia. It's an award-winner, and we don't want our neighbours to miss out."

"Love" will be released locally on 10 April 2008. The stars of the film will also be visiting Malaysia on a promo tour very soon. However, details are yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned.
