Do lizards read comics? Cicak-Man does!
29 May – Monsters and other movie characters terrorised Movie Carnival 2008 on its first day at Lower Ground Floor, Oval, 1 Utama.

After the launch at 11 a.m. by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage (KeKKWa), Y.B. Tuan Teng Boon Soon, the fanfare began. All the summer's biggest releases were showcased to the public, as everyone got to see the trailers for "The Dark Knight", "The X-Files: I Want To Believe", "Made Of Honour", "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth", "Red Cliff Part 1" and "The Incredible Hulk", "Meet Dave", "Get Smart" and "Wall-E" among others.

At 3 p.m. there was a launching of a new comic series featuring Malaysia's very own superhero, "Cicak-Man". According to Norman Abdul Halim, Group CEO of KRU Studios, this is indeed a rare moment in entertainment history, for almost always it is a comic that gets adapted into a movie and not the other way around. At the appearance of Cicak-Man in his new costume suit, he also added that "Cicak-Man 2: Planet Hitam" is now in post-production, as anticipation builds up for the sequel.

More monsters swamped the event when Hellboy, Spider-Man, Alien and Predator stomped themselves onto the stage, attracting many of curious onlookers. Many took pictures of the spectacle, while some braved themselves to go onstage to have a picture taken with the fearsome characters. Cicak-Man could not resist sitting out on all the action and returned to make an impromptu appearance with his fellow wall-crawler, Spidey.

Around 5 p.m. some more congenial company came in the form of director Pierre Andre and his "I'm Not Single" leading lady Intan Ladyana, who gave out free posters and t-shirts to the public. The good director was in particularly buoyant mood as he teased a bystander by giving up the prize as soon as she merely uttered her name.

However, the menacing monsters returned when Ultraman Max made an appearance at 7 p.m. together with a particularly ugly creature from the Ultraman universe. Merchandise from the popular Japanese franchise were selling like hot cakes, while kids unabashedly jumped onstage to perform all sorts of outrageous stunts mimicking their favourite superhero.

Movie Carnival is on at LGF Oval, 1 Utama from 28 May to 2 June, 10am to 10pm daily.
