Want to see Death in 3-D?

4 Sep – "The Final Destination", the fourth instalment in the successful horror series, topped the US box office charts last weekend with a surprising US$28.3 million, US$18 million of which was brought in from 3-D screenings alone according to online tracker Box Office Mojo. The film, which opened in Malaysia yesterday, is touted as the first 3-D live action horror movie to be released in Malaysia by local film distributor Warner Bros. Pictures. It tells of a group of teenagers who cheat Death, only to have Death come back for them again and again as they try to escape their fate.

With 3-D allowing Death to almost literally reach out into the audience, the film plays into the belief that some people are far more scared about how they'll die than when. "You don't see a slasher, there's no actual body coming after you, so it feeds into the notion of what death may or may not be for each individual person. That's something that everyone has questions about at some point in their life, and 'The Final Destination,' with its invisible killer, plays on everybody's own personal fears," says producer Craig Perry.

"What's great about the 'Final Destination' movies is when you're watching a scene and thinking, 'Okay, there are four ways he could die here.' But it's the fifth way you never saw coming that completely blows your mind. And we have a lot of them in this film," smiles actor Nick Zano.

Cinema Online "The Final Destination" contest winners got to catch the special preview screening for the horror flick at Cathay Cineleisure Damansara on 1 September 2009. After the screening, we asked some of them "What they thought of the movie, would this film be worth the extra cash to watch in 3-D and how many stars would they rate it out of five".

Koh Hong Ying: It was one thrilling ride! But then the special effects didn't seem so real this time. By far, I think the best "Final Destination" was the first and second instalment. However, this would be so much better in 3-D. I'd give 3.5 stars.

Chua Chun Wee (left): Gross and very scary! I've watched the previous "Final Destination" films and this one was the best as it was more graphic. Definitely worth the watch in 3-D. Imagine watching a person being impaled in 3-D! 4 stars!

Loh Chooi Fu: Not too bad. It's my first time watching a "Final Destination" film and thankfully, it wasn't too traumatising for me. Being familiar with the film's concept, I believe it would be better to catch it in 3-D. It'll give it a very interesting experience. I'd rate 3 stars.
