21 Jul – Over the weekend, moviegoing Muggles were cast under a spell by "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince" as it took the box office crown with a total weekend gross of $77.8 million in the US, taking the top spot in Malaysia and Singapore as well. Warner Bros. distributor in Singapore is thrilled with the film's box office takings, deemed to be similar to the success of its predecessor, "Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix." Even though it fell short of the "Transformers" and "The Dark Knight" figures, it's by far the biggest-opening "Harry Potter" film to date with its international tally of $394 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
Meanwhile, "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" stepped down to second place after staying at the top spot for four weeks consecutive at the Malaysia box office, making way for the boy wizard. However, in Singapore, the movie moved a step down to third position. Surprisingly, Malaysian horror flick "Skip 7707" directed by Prof. Madya A.Razak Mohaideen, manages to scare "Ice Age 3" away to fourth place in Malaysia, positioning "Skrip 7707" in third. Interestingly enough, during the recent "Skrip 7707" press conference at Cathay Cineplexes Damansara, the director revealed that the film will be scheduled to screen at Perth, Australia after Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year and hopes to attract Malaysian film lovers at the land down under.
