12 Apr – Action-comedy "Date Night" debuted at the top of the US box office charts after its first weekend of release, narrowly preventing 3D epic "Clash Of The Titans" from retaining the number one slot. The film starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey took an estimated US$27.1 million, knocking last week's chart topper "Clash Of The Titans" into second and 3D animation "How To Train Your Dragon" into third, according to Box Office Mojo. "Date Night" sees Carell and Fey as a suburban couple who find themselves on the run from the criminal underworld in New York City after posing as another couple to take a reservation at an exclusive restaurant while trying to spice up their romantic life.
Meanwhile, "Clash Of The Titans" continues to rule in its second week in Malaysia and Singapore. As observed in Cinema Online's "Hot Movie Checks", "Titans" kept a strong lead nationwide followed by Jack Neo's "Being Human", DreamWorks' "How To Train Your Dragon", Ahmad Idham's "Semerah Cinta Stilleto", and Andy Lau's "Future X-Cops". The mythological flick also raked the most number of movie fans wanting to watch it in digital 3D based on recent poll results. Lately, the cast of "Being Human" - Mark Lee, Yeo Yann Yann and Michelle Tay attended a press conference in Malaysia without the presence of Singaporean director Jack Neo to promote the film. Distributed by Primeworks Studios, the comedy managed to rake in a favourable response at the box office, considering the scandal surrounding the shamed filmmaker. In Singapore, the film has garnered well-over S$1 million in sales according to its distributor Golden Village Pictures.
