"Deathly Hallows" breaks opening record

Harry Potter characters with Muggles at "Deathly Hallows" premiere.

19 Nov – "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 1" enjoyed a record breaking opening day in Singapore and Malaysia during the Hari Raya Haji holiday.

This Part 1 of the final instalment has surpassed the opening day box office results of the previous six Harry Potter films, making it the highest opening day in the Harry Potter series ever.

In Singapore, the film garnered S$650,917 on opening day, surpassing the previous highest box office opening day numbers set by "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince" at S$458,649.

"Deathly Hallows" continues with Harry, Ron and Hermione's battle against numerous threats from dangerous sides with different intentions such as Death Eaters, Snatchers, the Ministry of Magic and last but not least, Lord Voldemort.

Cinema Online's "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 1" contest winners recently attend the premiere screening at TGV Wangsa Walk Kuala Lumpur, where a handful of Harry Potter characters mingled with the Muggles (on-magical people) on site.

After the movie, we asked some of the viewers what they thought of the movie and how many stars would they rate it out of five.

Low Chan Leong: "It was fantastic, although it was not long enough to cover the plot in the final novel. Harry, Ron and Hermione have improved and grown a lot from the previous movies. I'm absolutely looking forward to the finale, hopefully they will have more action. 4 stars."

Alan Chong: "The best out of the previous Harry Potter movies, there was even a standing ovation from the audiences as soon as the credits started to roll in. The main trio's acting has become more stable and matured this time around. There were also a lot of humorous scenes in 'Deathly Hallows'. 4.5 stars."

Tan Chin Jack: "It's quite a nice movie especially during the middle and there were a lot of improvements compared to its predecessors. 3 stars."
