1 Apr – Producer Robert Rodriguez announced via a live worldwide webchat that the upcoming "Predators" movie will be an R-rated movie that ignores "Predator 2" and the AVP movies. Streaming from Austin, Texas, a visibly tired Rodriguez, who has been addressing fans and press all over the world at intervals, was prompted by Cinema Online Malaysia in an early question to reveal the classification rating of the film, as many fans of the franchise had earlier expressed concerns that the movie will be PG-13 and compromise on the violence or gore associated with the earlier movies. He said: "It will be an R-rated movie. The studio encouraged us to just go out there and shoot... to make it as bloody as we wanted." Other key interests discussed include the introduction of more than one type or tribe of Predator, the introduction of the Berserker, that he described as "nasty and will shoot you even if you don't have a gun". It has also been revealed that the Predators will use a 'Falcon', a sort of flying spy device that transmits back to the creature's mask interface.
The most popular question of the day was whether iconic star of the 1987 original, Arnold Schwarzenegger, will appear in the film for a cameo. To this he responded: "He's obviously too busy. He's a Governor now so we can't rely on him making a cameo." There will be new weapons being shown but the female Predators that have appeared in concept art distributed to the press earlier are understood to not appear in the film.
Touted as a bold new chapter in the Predator universe, "Predators" was shot on location under Rodriguez's creative auspices at the filmmaker's Austin-based Troublemaker Studios, and is directed by Nimród Antal. The film stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary reluctantly leading a group of elite warriors who come to realize they've been brought together on an alien planet as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers: mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members - human 'predators' now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators. In addition to Adrien Brody, the film stars Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Laurence Fishburne. Co-starring are Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali. "Predators" opens 8 July in Malaysia and Singapore.
