2 Nov – Deemed as the 'final chapter' of the "Saw" horror franchise, "Saw 3D" managed to cut through the U.S. box office charts for the Halloween weekend just gone (28 -31 Oct). According to Box Office Mojo, the film gathered US$24.2 million, which improved upon the US14.1 million gross of the last movie "Saw VI", but a far cry from "Saw II" through "Saw V", which averaged nearly US32 million. "Saw 3D" is due in Singapore early January 2011 and will most likely not screen in Malaysia following the footsteps of its previous instalments due to its theme.
Meanwhile in Malaysia, PG13 adventure fantasy "Adele: Rise Of The Mummy" successfully fought off 18-rated thriller "Takers" starring Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, and Hayden Christensen. Also known as "The Extraordinary Adventure of Adele Blanc-Sec" in some territories, the film surrounds Adele Blanc-Sec, an intrepid young reporter who ends up tackling mummies in Eygpt. Other lesser new releases over the weekend include "Hisss", "Love Cuts", and "Ocean Heaven".
Apart from that, Facebook movie "The Social Network" starring Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timeberlake generated enough "likes" among the Singapore audiences island-wide, followed by "Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of Ga'Hoole" and "The Last Excorcism". Moreover, limited sneak previews of DreamWorks Animation "Megamind" were spotted to be sold out at selected cinemas. "Megamind" is slated to release in Singapore this 4 November, while Malaysians can catch "The Social Network" beginning 2 December 2010. Among other new releases include "Jackass 3D", "The Incite Mill" and "It's A Wonderful Afterlife".
