"Skyline" is now invading Malaysia!

13 Nov – Since their teens, directors Colin and Greg Strause have been immersed in the world of visual effects. They began their careers crafting VFX for music videos and commercials and created their firm, the Santa Monica, California, based Hydraulx, as a full-service VFX house. The brothers have had quite a remarkable list of movies which have experienced their magic such as James Cameron's "Avatar" and Roland Emmerich's "2012". Therefore, having ownership of their own effects shop made it no surprise to see the effects and alien designs in "Skyline" were distinctive from others before.

In addition to that, a sequel is already being planned on the drawing board. The duo has already got 45 pages worth of ideas for the next chapter on paper. To top it off, because it was done independently on a low budget, the brothers only need to make about "one tenth" the amount that normal high profile event movie makes for them to pursue a possible sequel.

Eric Balfour: "I think the sequel could be cooler than the first one."

According to the production notes, even lead actor Eric Balfour ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") revealed that plans are already aligned to turn the movie into a franchise. "I already know what the story of the sequel is, and I actually think the sequel could be cooler than the first one."

In "Skyline", we follow the events after a night of partying when a group of friends are distracted by beams of light awakening everyone in Los Angeles and attracting every person like a moth to a flame. As the night progresses, they soon discover that once addicted to the light, one would vanish into thin air and that extraterrestrial forces are starting to swallow the entire human race. It is up to them to fight for their lives as the alien forces are closing in, which would not stop until they harvest every single human on earth.

Cinema Online's "Skyline" contest winners recently managed to experience the apocalyptic alien invasion at Cathay Cineplex e@Curve, Damansara. After the movie, we asked some of our viewers what they thought of the movie, what do they think of the possibility of a sequel, and how many stars would they rate it out of 5.

Duncan Lee : "It was a good film with a different concept, though it could've been scripted better. I'm very doubtful of the possibility of a sequel seeing as the story was just not there. 3 stars."

Suhana : "It was good except for the ending which was a bit weird. The effects are outstanding though. It'll be interesting to know what happens to the humans next in the sequel. 3 stars."

Teoh Yong Chin : "Honestly, the ending is a bit of an anti-climactic but the effects are quite nice. If there's ever a sequel, I am looking forward to it! 3 stars."

"Skyline" is now playing in Malaysia and will invade Singapore on 2 December 2010!
