5 Jul – "Toy Story 3" manages to prolong its playtime atop Malaysian weekend box office (1-4 July) for three weekends in a row, even upholding good response for 3D screenings at GSC Mid Valley as it dominates over normal version, according to cinema manager Mr Lee Kong Yew.
Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz's "Knight & Day" also manages to rake up some big bucks at the box office at it tops the charts at numerous cinemas in the Klang Valley namely Cathay Damansara and GSC Mid Valley in its second weekend. Based on Cinema Online's Hot Movie Checks, spy action "Knight & Day" leads the way followed by 1980's remake "The Karate Kid", local comedy "Zoo", semi-biography "The Legend Is Born: Ip Man", and 1980's remake "The A-Team".
Meanwhile, our neighbours across the Causeway and those in the United States managed to catch the highly anticipated third instalment of the vampire romance, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" over the weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie unfortunately didn't live up to its name in relation to its predecessor "The Twilight Saga: New Moon", but delivered a massive start in its own right. In five days, "Eclipse" has pulled in US$161 million, ranking as the seventh highest-grossing five-day start ever, behind "New Moon"'s US$164.7 million but doubling "Twilight"'s US$80.2 million.
"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is set to release in Malaysia this 8 July together with Robert Rodriguez's "Predators", Universal Pictures' animated 3D feature "Despicable Me", and Stephen Chow's famous scholar spoof prequel "Flirting Scholar".
