20 Jan - Hong Kong Heavenly King Andy Lau was in town recently with director Benny Chan ("Rob-B-Hood, New Police Story") to Chinese New year movie "Shaolin".

The superstar who flew in a day earlier was all smiles during the press conference at Ritz Carlton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 19 January and made a public appearance at GV Vivocity in Singapore the next day.

When asked questions regarding his Malaysian wife Carol Chu, a contentious issue that has lost him some fans due to his earlier denial on the relationship, Andy was quick to divert the media's attention and even asked the reporters to be nice.

"Please be nice. No questions on personal matters. After all you shouldn't treat your fellow half-Malaysian friend like this," joked the "Shaolin" lead actor.

Andy also revealed that he enjoyed working with his co-star, Nicholas Tse. "He is such a perfectionist. He wants to do everything himself, be it dangerous stunts or pure action. We constantly remind him to be extra careful."

When asked about his upcoming Chinese New Year's celebration, the actor who will be busy with the shoot of an upcoming movie divulged that he will be spending the festive season in Hong Kong with families and friends.

Director Benny Chan on the other hand expressed his hopes for the movie saying that, "I want to balance out between action and drama. I want the audiences to feel the messages that I hope to bring out. I also hope that the audiences will like the final scenes involving tones of explosions."

He also added, "I don't mind destroying the expensive set that took months to prepare. I want my audiences to see and feel the real thing rather than putting in computer-generated images that turns out to be fake looking."

Benny also said that he enjoyed working with Andy saying that it gave him new opportunity to get to know Andy once more. "It was 20 years ago when we first met and worked on a project. Everything was done hastily last time and 20 years later I get another chance to work with him all over again."

"Shaolin" follows the story of a fallen young, arrogant warlord named Hao Jie (Andy Lau) who had to repent and seek refuge with the Shaolin monks after he was betrayed by his own power-hungry right-hand man. Together, Hao Jie and the Shaolin masters are forced to take a fiery stand against his betrayer for justice and peace to prevail once again.

"Shaolin" will be showing at cinemas in Singapore on 20 January 2011 and in Malaysia on 27 January 2011.
