Maya Karin: "Sex scene in Avatar"?

18 Mar – Popular Malaysian actress Maya Karin sidestepped a question on whether she would reject doing a sex scene for "Avatar 2" if she were indeed cast by director James Cameron for such an opportunity.

Speaking to Cinema Online in an interview, she was clearly unaware of the Na'vi sex scene between Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake (Sam Worthington) in the 2009 blockbuster when she answered: "Aside from the remoteness of such a chance, I think that Mr. Cameron wouldn't ask me for such a scene because there wasn't any in the first movie in the first place, so why put one in now?"

When it was pointed out to the "Pontianak Sundal Harum Malam" star, it transpired that she may have watched the cut or censored version instead.

The 31-year-old German-born beauty will appear in the upcoming Malaysian release "Cun" opposite Remy Ishak and is currently busy shooting the sequel for "Lagenda Budak Setan" under Sharad Sharan's direction.

A limited theatrical re-release of "Avatar" exclusively in 3D theatres and IMAX 3D was done worldwide in August 2011. It included an additional nine minutes of footage, all of which is CG, including an extension of the Na'vi sex scene and various other scenes that were cut from the original theatrical film.

This extended re-release resulted in the film's runtime approaching the current IMAX platter maximum of 170 minutes, thereby leaving less time for the end credits.

It was reported that Cameron stated that the nine minutes of added scenes cost more than US $1 million a minute to produce and finish.

"Avatar 2" has been pencilled in for release in 2014, as James Cameron has confirmed he intends to shoot both "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3" concurrently.
