"Contagion" catches on

14 Sep – "Contagion" breaks out at first place last weekend raking in US $22.4 million as it spreads over "The Help", ending the latter's three week streak to settle in for second place. The Tom Hardy film "Warrior", seemed to lack a punch as it made its debut at third place in the North American box office for the weekend just gone (8 – 11 September), according to online tracker Box Office Mojo.

In Malaysia however, Ahmad Idham's "Hantu Bonceng" that opened over the Raya-Merdeka weekend, still holds its spot at first place while "The Smurfs" still clings on to second place, making room another local movie "Nasi Lemak 2.0", to debut at third place for the local box office.

Singaporeans however seemed to enjoy "The Smurfs" quite a bit as the live-action feature managed to helm the charts yet again, while "Contagion" opens up at second place leaving the comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" to fall short as it takes the third place at the local box office for the weekend just gone.

Other new releases and sneak shows last week in Malaysia include "Bridesmaids", while "Love In Space", "The Kingdom", "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan", "Kasethan Kadavulada", "Mad Ghost", and "Apollo 18".

In Singapore, other new releases and sneak shows last week include "City Of Your Final Destination", "Haunters", "The Hanged Man", "My Kingdom" and "Love In Space".
