Hollywood and China's 3 Idiots remake

5 Dec – Bollywood's award-winning comedy, "3 Idiots", starring Aamir Khan, will undergo treatment by Hollywood and China, according to Digital Spy.

The film, which was released in December 2009, broke all box office records in India and was even screened at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

It tells the story of three individuals, Farhan (Madhavan), Raju (Sharman) and Ranchoddas (Aamir), who become best friends despite having different ambitions. When a tragedy befalls one of them, it is up to Ranchoddas to mend things or risk losing their friendship and the woman he loves.

"We are in talks with three studios in Hollywood and one company in Italy for the remake of "3 Idiots"," said the film's producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra to PTI.

"The director of "Kung Fu Hustle", Stephen Chow is also remaking it in Chinese."

The original film will be released in mainland China next week. About 900 prints of the film have also been sent overseas, making it the biggest Bollywood release outside of India.

"It's a first for any Hindi film to release with so many prints in China. It is also being adapted into a stage musical in Taiwan. The film has already made two to three million dollars in Hong Kong," said Chopra.

He added: "My films are made with universal values so audiences all over the world can connect with them. I am hoping my next "Ferrari Ki Sawaari" will also taste the same success."
