19 May – Cinemagoers in Malacca now have four cinemas to choose from - MBO Melaka Mall, Lotus Five Star Mahkota Parade, GSC Dataran Pahlawan and new 10-screen GSC AEON Bandaraya Melaka that opened to the public this morning after five days of free shows as a test run.

Headlining Disney's summer tent-pole "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", the cineplex, situated on the second floor of what is the largest mall in the state, has a capacity of 1785 seats with two digital halls to cater to the increasing demand for digital 3D movies.

The event was officiated by GSC GM Irving Chee and AEON Leasing, Credit Control and Property Management GM Tee Bee Chuan.

Chee said: "A total of RM 24 million has been invested in GSC AEON Bandaraya Melaka which has been equipped with the latest state-of-the-art facilities, comfortable chairs and ambience for the enjoyment of our valued customers."

Highlights of the day

Po from "Kung Fu Panda" was at hand for a special character appearance, as advance tickets for "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom Of Doom" opens next week.

AEON Bandaraya Melaka Shopping Centre was completed in November 2009 and was initially scheduled to open for public on 17 December 2009. However, a major fatal explosion incident at the mall has caused the opening to be deferred to 5 February 2010.

GSC Aeon Bandaraya Melaka is GSC's 23rd location nationwide and is the chain's second in the state, notching a total of 20 screens between it and GSC Dataran Pahlawan.
