9 Nov – "Puss In Boots" holds its ground again at first place this weekend as it manages to amass US $75.5 million during its second week of release at the North American box office. The Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy comedy however, lacked the laughs as it made its debut at second place with US $24 million, while the same also goes for "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas", which perhaps adopted the Christmas spirit and opened up a tad too early at third place with a weak US $12 million opening for the weekend just gone (3 – 6 Nov), according to online tracker, Box Office Mojo. Johnny Depp's "The Rum Diary" which opened in up in US last week at 5th place, suffered an all-time low, as it failed to gain momentum over the weekend, dropping down 3 more spots to 8th place in what critics tout the film to be a major Hollywood flop of the year, amassing only US $10.3 million thus far. In Malaysia, "Shark Night" saw audiences in search for a thrill as the movie bit into first place last weekend. Local movie, "Alamak, Toyol!" made its debut at a decent second place as the Hari Raya Haji weekend proved fruitful as families sank into the supernatural comedy. Tamil movie "7aam Arivu" which took third place last weekend, saw Indian actor Suriya who came down to make an appearance during one of his movie screenings at Cathay Cineplex, e@TheCurve. Taiwanese movie "You Are The Apple Of My Eye" saw sold out shows for almost all of its sneak previews that were held over the period of two weekends, despite only officially releasing tomorrow. In Singapore, local movie "23:59" managed to rake in the top spot, while "Tower Heist" made its debut at second place leaving "In Time" who had a solid opening week, drop down to third place at the local box office for the past weekend. Other new releases and sneak peeks last week in Malaysia include "The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn", "Sleepwalker" and "Tower Heist". In Singapore, the new releases and sneak peeks last week were "Sector 7", "Drive", "Star Watching Dog", "Curry Munchers", "The Ides Of March" and "Sleepwalker".
