Datuk Michelle Yeoh to promote "The Lady"

After being in foreign lands for a while, Datuk Michelle Yeoh will be returning to Malaysia to promote "The Lady".

18 Apr – This 24 April marks the return of one of Malaysia's very own Hollywood star, Datuk Michelle Yeoh, whose homecoming is to promote her latest film, "The Lady", which will be released in Malaysia on 3 May, according to a report by The Daily Chilli.

The biopic is based on the incredible love story of Myanmar's democracy icon and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi and her husband, the late Michael Aris, set against the background of "political turmoil". Helmed by the acclaimed French filmmaker, Luc Besson of "La Femme Nikita", "The Fifth Element" and "Leon: The Professional" fame, the film has generated a lot of buzz around the world.

The actress shared her experience about working closely with the famous political icon previously, which eventually led her to being deported from Myanmar in June last year.

"When I went there, I was extremely nervous because I was afraid she would look at me and go, 'Oh my God, why are you portraying me?' But when she was in front of me, all she did was open up her arms and welcome me like a family member," said 49-year-old Yeoh.

Apart from that, the former Bond girl also revealed that she had to lose 8kg in order to acquire the slender frame of the Burmese freedom fighter.

Her visit to Kuala Lumpur will see her gracing the charity premiere of "The Lady" at GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, hosted by Swiss Watch Extraordinaire, Richard Mille.

The charity screening is also part of Yeoh's effort to aid the Voice of Children, a non-profit organisation for the welfare and protection of children in Malaysia which she personally champions.

"The Lady" is distributed by GSC Movies and will be released in selected cinemas in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh and Malacca on 3 May.
