27 Feb – Edgar Wright, best known for directing the comedic horror "Shaun Of The Dead" and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World", is roped by Disney to direct "The Night Stalker", which is a remake of the ABC series with fan favourite, Johnny Depp, to play the intrepid tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak, according to Deadline. Depp and his sister, Christi Dembrowski, who runs his production company Infinitum Nihil, will produce while David Kennedy will be the executive producer of the film. The idea of this film adaptation stemmed from Depp and Dembrowski's fond memories of the original 70s movie and series titled "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", which starred Darren McGavin. McGavin played Carl Kolchak, a fictional Chicago newspaper reporter who investigates mysterious crimes that law enforcement authorities would not pursue, which are usually caused by the supernatural. However, the subject matter will be tailored to fit Disney's audiences, with Wright having full control of the film from ground up. "The Night Stalker" is not the only film that Depp and Dembrowski have constructed at the studio. The other was a drama about the "Midnight Ride" by Paul Revere, a incident where American silversmith warned the Colonial militia of the impending British invasion that made him a seminal figure in the American Revolutionary War. Currently, Depp is saddling up with "J. Edgar" star, Armie Hammer, for Gore Verbinski-directed Disney's "The Lone Ranger", while Wright is attached to direct "Ant-Man" for Marvel Studios and Disney.
