Dwayne Johnson becomes Hercules

"The Rock" Johnson will play the titular hero in "Hercules: The Thracian Wars".

9 Nov – Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is ready to put on some armour to play the famous mythological character in Brett Ratner's new directorial feature about Hercules, which is currently titled "Hercules: The Thracian Wars", according to Empire Online.

"Hercules" will be co-produced by MGM and Paramount Pictures and will begin filming at the beginning of 2013. The movie's plot is based on the adaptation of the graphic novel series of the same name written by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya.

It is definitely darker and more graphic than Disney's "Hercules", with Hercules now an embittered warrior turned violent mercenary. The movie sees how Hercules, the powerful son of the god Zeus, battles to stop the King of Thrace from sending the army that he, Hercules, trained into lethal killing machines, from hurting the innocent men, women and children in their conquest of Greece.

Brett Ratner will helm the camera for "Hercules".

Ratner, who is well-known for his work on "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Rush Hour 3", also serves as the producer for his new directorial feature film alongside his colleagues Beau Flynn and Barry Levine.

Meanwhile, Johnson is one of the most wanted man in Hollywood these days, with movies like "G.I. Joe: Retaliation", "Fast And Furious 6", "Pain & Gain", "Snitch" and "Empire State" in his line-up.
