Fassbender's "Assassin's Creed"


Michael Fassbender is set to star as Desmond Miles in his own production of "Assassin's Creed".

14 Jul – As Michael Fassbender is not yet Bond, fans would just have to settle for ogling him as the elite assassin the popular "Assassin's Creed" video game franchise, as the actor is set to co-produce and star in a movie adaptation of the game.

According to Variety, Fassbender was the first choice in mind to bring the featured assassin in Ubisoft's game to life due to the actor's rising popularity following his casting in high-profile films such as "X-Men: First Class", "Haywire", "Shame" and Prometheus". His role as not been named yet, but it is expected that he would be the lead.

"Michael [Fassbender] is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the filmmaking division of the Canadian game publisher that turned their major flagship game franchises into movie properties.

The "Assassin's Creed" franchise consists of five main games and a number of supporting materials to date. The story revolves around a bartender named Desmond Miles, who is a descendant of several lines of prominent Assassins. His lineage leads him to be kidnapped by the megacorporation Abstergo Industries, a modern-day version of the Knights Templar and is forced to relive his ancestral memories; assassins in various historical time periods in order to discover the location of the "Pieces of Eden".

Ubisoft Motion Pictures is also currently looking for a studio to adapt their other flagship franchises, "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon" and "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell".
