21 Jul – Not only is "Kepong Gangster" going to give us a visceral perspective on the life of Malaysian gangsters, but it is also giving us an audio treat. According to director Teng Bee, the soundtrack of "Kepong Gangster" is one of the few locally produced films to fully utilise the 5.1 sound systems in most cinemas, and invites audiences to listen to it for themselves when the movie hits cinemas nationwide on 13 September. "There is a difference between listening to a movie in 5.1 and stereo because the sound quality is so much better that you can immerse yourself into the movie with the surround sound," said Teng Bee during an inside showcase of the soundtrack for his debut feature to Cinema Online at 101Studios. Unlike most local movie productions, he added, the soundtrack of "Kepong Gangster" is also composed exclusively to match the film's visuals, instead of the usual method of making the soundtrack first, then 'mix and match' them to the available shots. "We even composed some of the tracks before we started shooting, so that we can play it during the filming process, and adjust our scenes accordingly in order to create a suitable atmosphere for the film," said Teng Bee, who started out as a musician before he went on to direct commercial and music videos and is now making his first venture into feature-length filmmaking. Local Chinese pop singer, Jovi Theng, has been chosen to sing the main theme of "Kepong Gangster", titled "Black Hole". The film would be hitting Malaysian cinemas on 13 September, and Teng Bee has voiced out his plans to release the original soundtrack of "Kepong Gangster" for sale at the same time.
