Michael Bay's "Ninja Turtles"

Michael Bay introduces the new title for the comic hero remake.

28 Mar – In a shocking move, "Transformers" director Michael Bay has been confirmed to be taking up the producer's mantle for a film reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", and he has revealed its title to be "Ninja Turtles" on his official forums, according to Movie Web.

Bay has also posted his firm support of bringing in Jonathan Liebesman, the man behind the recent "Wrath Of The Titans", to direct this new instalment in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise.

According to Bay, "Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie. This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles."

He added, "Jonathan, the director, is a major fan of the whole franchise. He's not going to let you down."

However, the title is not the only change in the remake. Bay has also announced that there will be a new interpretation on the "Ninja Turtles" origin story, where Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello are said to be of "an alien race".

"When we are done with this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."

Needless to say, there was an outrage. However, Bay defended himself by saying that "Fans need to take a breath, and chill."

To date, four "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" have already been made, with the last known film to be Kevin Munroe's animated "TMNT" in 2007, with voices provided by Chris Evans, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Stewart, Zhang Ziyi, and Laurence Fishburne.
