7 new IMAX for TGV

TGV's first IMAX was introduced back in December 2011 at Sunway Pyramid.

17 Jul – TGV Cinemas is set to add 7 new IMAX theatres across Malaysia beginning with the reopening of TGV 1 Utama this September which would be housing an IMAX.

The development comes as the Canadian IMAX Corporation and TGV Cinemas announced today on the expansion of their existing joint revenue sharing agreement which was first made back in October 2011.

Their first new IMAX will follow the opening of the highly anticipated TGV 1 Utama reopening in early September this year, which before this had been closed to undergo heavy renovation work since February 2011.

Following suit would be another IMAX for an existing multiplex in Johor Bahru, which is reportedly TGV Aeon Tebrau City which currently boasts the Megascreen; a 20 meter wall-to-wall screen which would be converted into an IMAX theatre by December this year.

The third and fourth IMAX theatres would be located in new upcoming multiplexes at Penang and Kuala Lumpur in December 2013 and December 2015 respectively. The locations for the remaining 3 theatres are yet to be confirmed.

"Our first IMAX theatre has been a tremendous success and we are keen to build on this momentum with today's agreement." said TGV's CEO Kenny Wong in a statement today, referring back to the first TGV IMAX that was introduced last December at Sunway Pyramid.

This year, TGV is expected to open new multiplexes at Cheras Sentral, Kuala Lumpur and Setia Walk, Puchong.
