26 Apr – Despite the strong foothold that "The Hunger Games" had on the movie scene as exemplified by their four weeks of being top consecutively, like the epic battle of David against Goliath, the mighty will eventually fall. Gary Ross' widespread blockbuster have taken a dive down to third spot in the US box office, giving way to a new entry in the form of a film adaptation of a self-improvement book by Tim Story, titled "Think Like a Man". With stars like singer Chris Brown and Gabrielle Union in the movie, it managed to rake in a total gross of $33.7 million while second spot goes to "The Lucky One", another adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' tear jerking novels, this time starring Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling as its leads as a former marine and the woman whose photograph was his lucky charm. If the movie line-up seemed a little watered down, bear in mind that Joss Whedon's highly anticipated superhero film will be released over the coming weekend, which is one of the reasons for the faltering competition over the last weekend (19-22 Apr).

On the other hand, across thousands of miles of the vast ocean in Malaysia, no one is sparing time thinking like man. Instead, they are hard-pressed battling aliens with "Battleship", which stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, Tadanobu Asano and Liam Neeson. This is the second consecutive week that Peter Berg's science fiction naval war film managed to captivate Malaysian audiences. Guy Pearce's widely talked about French science fiction action, "Lockout", debuted in second place to lukewarm reception, while Drew Goddard's horror, "The Cabin In The Woods", opened in third place. "The Cabin In the Woods" stars "Thor" himself, Chris Hemsworth, and served to provide fans with a taste of Whedon's talents for screenplay writing.

"Battleship" continued to dominate the top spot even across the Straits in Singapore. However, unlike US audiences, Singaporeans are more receptive of romance tearjerker, "The Lucky One", allowing it to ease into second place, while Joss Whedon's "The Cabin In the Woods" horror opened in third place again.
