11 Jun – M. Night Shyamalan's "After Earth", also known as Will Smith's pet project, manages to debut at first place at the weekend box office for both Malaysia and Singapore. "After Earth" tells the story of a father and son who becomes trapped in a dangerous post-apocalyptic Earth after their ship encounters an asteroid shower. The film managed to rule over films like "Now You See Me", which took the second spot in Singapore and third spot in Malaysia. In Malaysia, the second spot was given to the adrenaline-pumping "Fast And Furious 6", while the Thai horror-flick "Pee Mak" debuted in Malaysia at fourth place. In Singapore, audiences favour comedy over action as "The Hangover Part III" beats "Fast And Furious 6" to get third place.
In US, the horror film starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, "The Purge", which tells the story about a family that is targeted by a group of murderous individuals for housing their intended target in their house on the night of "the purge", where any and all crime is legalized for 12 hours, debuted in first place. The film manages to beat fellow newcomer "The Internship" starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, which came in fourth. "Fast And Furious 6" and "Now You See Me" each dropped a spot from last week to second and third place, respectively. Other movies that debuted in Malaysia last week include "Yamla Pagla Deewana 2" and "Lari". Other movies that debuted in Singapore last week include "Escape From Planet Earth", "Yamla Pagla Deewana 2", "So Young", "Penthouse North", "The Hunt" and "Zombie 108".
