2 Jul – With Brad Pitt's "World War Z" already in its second week in theatres, there was a chance for either Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx's "White House Down" or Henry Cavill's "Man Of Steel" to steal the champion's trophy from Marc Forster's apocalyptic horror film. Alas, in Malaysia and Singapore, "World War Z" still managed to beat both films to the top spot, leaving "White House Down" to debut in second place followed by "Monsters University" in third place.
But things take a different turn in the U.S. box office, for Disney and Pixar's "Monsters University" managed to keep their top spot seat for the second week in a row with a total gross of USD 170.4 million for the weekend of 27 June to 30 June. Right behind "Monsters University" is Paul Feig's "The Heat", starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy as an uptight FBI special agent and a testy Boston cop respectively, who join forces to take down a ruthless drug lord. Rounding up the top three is "World War Z". Other new movies to open over the week in Malaysia are "The Heat", "1 Lawan Satu", "Badges Of Fury", "Thulli Vilayadu", "Annakodi Kodiveeranum", "Ambikapathy" and "Ghanchakkar". Other new movies to open over the week in Singapore are "Badges Of Fury", "Ghanchakkar", "The Heat", "Ecstasy" and "HK Forbidden Super Hero".
