3 Mar – Held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), the 25th Malaysia Film Festival (FFM25) gave top honors to "Bunohan", which received five awards last night, including three from the Anugerah Cipta on last Wednesday night, for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Story, Best Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Art, and Best Original Music Score. Faizal Hussien received his Best Actor award for "Bunohan" as well. Dain Iskandar Said, who went up to accept most of the awards, tried to hold back tears as he received his Best Director trophy and went on to say in his speech that it had been a very long journey to get to this point. His film, "Bunohan", best Effendee Mazlan and Fariza Azlina Ishak's film "Songlap", even with the latter receiving more nominations with 15, altogether. "Songlap" managed to get four awards including Syafie Naswip receiving Best Supporting Actor, Normah Damanhuri receiving Best Supporting Actress, Best Editing and Best Cinematography.
It was a great night to appreciate the Malaysian industry in films, as many veteran actors were appreciated as well with Special Awards including Mano Maniam of "The King and I", and Dato' Aziz Satar in the classic P. Ramlee movies like "Bujang Lapok". The Malaysian visual effects team, Rhythm & Hues, that helped make Ang Lee's Oscar winning film "Life Of Pi" also won a Special Achievement Award. Quoting from this year's Oscars, the recipient gave a moving speech saying, "We are not just technicians, we are all artists."
