Film in Malaysia, get 30% rebate

Full support given to the announcement of FIMI.

19 Feb – Good news lies ahead for local and international filmmakers who are keen to shoot their movies in Malaysia with the introduction of the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) offering a 30% cash rebate for Qualifying Malaysian Production Expenditure (QMPE).

FIMI is open to both Malaysian and foreign production activities and can be applied in one of two streams, production or post-production activity. It is applicable for production and post-production approved activities beginning 2013 with applications being processed through the Film In Malaysia Office (FIMO), a division of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).

FIMI aims to nurture the local film market by offering a 30% rebate to filmmakers who are shooting in Malaysia.

The initiative is to provide an additional financial incentive for creative content development specifically for film, television and other screen productions as well as to encourage foreign companies to invest in the local filming industry to encourage growth.

To find out if you qualify for the application, one can consult the "Film in Malaysia Incentive Guidelines" which is available on their official website.
