3 Jun – Karen Gillan, best known for her role in "Doctor Who", has been cast in the upcoming Marvel Studios production, "Guardians Of The Galaxy". The Scottish actress is set to play the film's lead female villain, though the details for Gillan's role were not revealed. The actress joins a growing cast that includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Lee Pace as the lead male villain, and potentially John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey. Glenn Close has also joined the cast as the leader of the Nova Corps.
Gillan starred as Amy Pond, the Doctor's companion on the hit BBC show "Doctor Who", but wrapped up her well-received, three-series run on the show last year. She will next star in several indie films, including the horror film "Oculus". Production of the film is set to get underway in the next few months in London.
