21 Feb – Hollywood has decided to take a shot at bringing Bruce Lee's story to the big screens once again by focusing on an origin story that is based on the challenge Lee faced in a fight with Wong Jack Man, China's most famous kung fu master. "Birth Of The Dragon" will focus on the no-rules fight that took place in San Francisco during 1965, when the city's Chinatown was controlled by the Hong Kong triads. The reason for the face-off was caused by Wong, who demanded that Lee stop teaching martial arts to Caucasian students if he lost. However, Wong refuted Lee's allegation, saying that he was only answering to the latter open offer to challengers.
The story will be written by the scribes behind "Ali" and "Nixon", Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen Rivele. Lee has always been a favourite subject among Asian filmmakers, and was also indirectly responsible for pushing Wing Chun master Ip Man's namesake to fame when it was made known that he studied kung fu under him as a disciple, but Hollywood is no stranger to the dragon himself. Rob Cohen had directed another Bruce Lee origin film, "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" in 1993, where Jason Scott Lee played the international star. The story was based on his biography, "Bruce Lee: The Only Man I Knew" written by Lee's wife, Linda Lee Cadwell. No word yet on who will be playing the martial arts star nor is there a release date announced for it.
