29 Oct – Malaysians get in the Halloween spirit as "Insidious 2" tops the Malaysian box office chart, yet again for 25 October to 27 October. The popular horror sequel beat out films like "Special ID", "Tom Yum Goong 2" and "Escape Plan" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. "Insidious 2" is directed by James Wan of movies like "Saw" and "The Conjuring" about the haunted Lambert family who seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. In Singapore, "Escape Plan" managed to win the audience. The film tells the story of when a structural-security authority finds himself set up and incarcerated in the world's most secret and secure prison, and he has to use his skills to escape with help from the inside.
"Carrie", "Gravity", and "Special ID" placed in second, third and fourth place, respectively. In the U.S., the prankster-heavy film "Bad Grandpa" presented by MTV's own Jackass topped the box office, above movies like "Gravity", "Captain Phillips" and "The Counselor". "Bad Grandpa" revolves around 86-year-old Irving Zisman who takes a trip from Nebraska to North Carolina to take his 8 year-old grandson, Billy, back to his real father. Other new films that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are "Mickey Virus", "Odd Thomas", "Tom Yum Goong 2", "Balada Pencinta","Rigor Mortis" and "Mega Spider". Other new films that opened over the weekend in Singapore are "Mickey Virus", "Ain't Them Bodies Saints", " Like Father, Like Son", "The Butler", "Escape Plan", "Carrie", "The Look of Love" and "It's Me, It's Me".
