14 May – Despite the bunch of new releases, "Iron Man 3" manages to beat the three of the biggest ones, "Star Trek Into Darkness", "The Great Gatsby" and "Evil Dead", maintaining its box office reign in Malaysia, Singapore and US for the week of 9 to 12 May! In Malaysia, it is possible that "Iron Man 3" is still in first place because the screenings for "Star Trek Into Darkness" are only sneaks so far. J. J. Abrams's highly anticipated film is only officially out in cinemas on 16 May 2013. Rounding up the top three is the action thriller "Vehicle 19" starring Paul Walker.
In Singapore, horror remake "Evil Dead" came in second while "The Big Wedding" opened in third. Starring Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried, the comedy film tells the story of a long-divorced couple who fakes being married as their family unites for a wedding. Originally scheduled to premiere in Malaysia as well, "Evil Dead" was removed as it is deemed too violent. In US, Baz Luhrmann's long-awaited "The Great Gatsby" ended up dividing critics instead, leading to its failure to steal the top spot from "Iron Man 3". The good news is, it performed a little bit better than surprisingly popular action film "Pain And Gain", which tells the tale of a trio of bodybuilders in Florida get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong. For Malaysia, other movies that opened last week were "99 Kali Rindu", "David Loman", "Kaliyugha", "Shootout At Wadala", "Nagaraja Cholan MA, MLA", "Love Story" and "Go Goa Gone". For Singapore, other movies that opened last week were "Falstaff", "The Company You Keep", "David Loman" and "Go Goa Gone".
