"Iron Man 3" soars to first place


All eyes were expectedly on "Iron Man 3" last week.
8 May – Making its debut last weekend is "Marvel's Iron Man 3", which, to nobody's surprise, placed first in the weekend box office for 2 to 5 May with USD 174.1 million. Directed by Shane Black, the sequel to "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" sees Robert Downey, Jr. reprising his role as the title character. Tony Stark is facing an emotional crisis since his near-death ordeal in "Marvel's The Avengers" which has him working on developing more suits feverishly. When a threat appears in the form of The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), a mysterious terrorist, Tony Stark is forced to confront the question that has long plagued him, does the suit make the man or the man make the suit?

In its second weekend, Michael Bay's "Pain And Gain" dropped to second place. The film is based on the true story of the brutal kidnapping, extortion, torture, and murder of several victims by an organized group of criminals consisting of bodybuilders affiliated with Sun Gym. Meanwhile, Jackie Robinson biopic "42" holds on to third place.

In Malaysia, "Marvel's Iron Man 3" maintained its hold over first place. Tamil movie "Ethir Neechal" opens in second. The comedy drama film tells the story of a marathon runner who is embarrassed by his real name, which in turn, leads him to miss out on many important events.


"Ethir Neechal" stars Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role.
Rounding up the top three is Thai horror film "9.9.81". The film centres on the suicide of a bride, which in turn leads to the nine sudden 'accidents' of the people connected to her.

In Singapore, "Marvel's Iron Man 3" is also in first place, followed by "The Call" and "Identity Thief".

New releases over the weekend in Malaysia are "Soodhu Kavvum", "Bisikan Syaitan" and "Identity Thief".

New releases over the weekend in Singapore are "Scary Movie 5", "Spring Breakers" and " Shootout At Wadala".
