16 July – The film that features much of what a summer blockbuster should contain surprisingly flopped at the U.S. box office in the weekend gone by (11 to 14 July)! Not only had "Pacific Rim" lost to "Despicable Me 2", it also lost, shockingly so, to Adam Sandler's "Grown Ups 2". To clarify, "Despicable Me 2" came out top, followed by the debut of "Grown Ups 2" in number two and "Pacific Rim". However, Guillermo Del Toro's Jaeger movie won the top spot in Malaysia and Singapore, and it made USD 37.3 million in the U.S., the highest opening ever for director Guillermo Del Toro ahead of "Hellboy II: The Golden Army". "Despicable Me 2" fell to second spot in Malaysia and Singapore but third place goes to the Tamil action film "Singam II" in Malaysia and "The Lone Ranger" in Singapore.
"Grown Ups 2" stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade and Salma Hayek. Set three years after the events of "Grown Ups", Lenny Feder has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends grew up. This time around, the grown ups are the ones learning lessons from their kids on a day notoriously full of surprises, the last day of school. Other films opened over the week in Malaysia are "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", "The Rooftop", and "Tales From The Dark Part 1". Other films opened over the week in Singapore are "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", "The Rooftop", "Arthur Newman", "Lesson Of The Evil" and "Man Of Tai Chi".
