"Oz" to have sequel

Writer: Elaine Ewe

"Oz The Great And Powerful" seems highly likely to have a sequel.

8 Mar – This is Hollywood, and if one thing Hollywood is known for, it is the endless adaptations, sequels, remakes, and reboots that they can come up with, and with the obvious success of Disney's "Oz The Great And Powerful", the studio are already planning a sequel.

According to Collider, screenwriter Mitchell Kapner, who penned "Oz The Great And Powerful" with David Lindsay-Abaire, have been commissioned to write a follow-up, although no details on the plot are out yet.

Considering that "Oz The Great And Powerful" is a prequel of sorts to L. Frank Baum's classic novel "The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz" and the novel being public domain, the sequel may very well turn its focus to Dorothy, but Kapner cannot use any of the iconic imagery in Warner Bros.' 1939 film.

Dorothy and her friends in Victor Fleming, King Vidor, Mervyn LeRoy's 1939 film, "The Wizard Of Oz".

"Oz The Great And Powerful" tells the story of a small-time magician who gets transported to the land of Oz in his hot air balloon, where he finds himself hailed as the saviour. However, dark powers are afoot amongst the three witches he meets: Theodora, Evanora and Glinda, and it is up to Oscar "Oz" Diggs to use his bags of tricks to discover who is good and who is evil.

Starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, Sam Raimi's "Oz The Great And Powerful" is playing in cinemas now!
