1 Oct – "Runner Runner", a film about a poor college student who has gotten involved in an online poker game and arranges a meeting with the man he thinks cheated him, a sly offshore entrepreneur, ruled the box office last weekend (27-29 September) for both Singapore and Malaysia. "Runner Runner" stars the new Batman Ben Affleck, pop superstar Justin Timberlake and Gemma Arterton from "Prince of Persia" and "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters". The film beat out " Young Detective Dee: Rise Of The Sea Dragon" and "Rush" in Singapore and "Raja Rani" and "2 Guns" in Malaysia.
In the U.S., "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2" climbed to the top last weekend at their debut. The animated film, which includes the voices of Bill Hader and Anna Faris, is a sequel about Flint Lockwood who now works at The Live Corp Company for his idol Chester V. But he's forced to leave his post when he learns that his most infamous machine is still operational and is churning out menacing food-animal hybrids. Other new films that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are, "Rush", " Young Detective Dee: Rise Of The Sea Dragon", " BenCinta", " Grand Masti", " About Time", "The Butler", "3096 Days", " Onaiyum Aatukuttiyum", " Raja Rani" and "Mayday Nowhere". Other new films that opened over the weekend in Singapore are, "Metallica: Through the Never", "John Day", " Young Detective Dee: Rise Of The Sea Dragon", "Mayday Nowhere", "Metro Manila" and "Stuck in Love".
