"Thor 2" repeats first

Jane Foster is trying to explain to Thor how leading the box office charts for two weeks is a science.

19 Nov – Last weekend (14 – 17 November) saw not many new blockbuster releases, leaving "Thor: The Dark World" to continue its box office reign in the U.S. and Malaysia, bringing its total gross to USD 145.1 million. The film's numbers are currently on par with "Marvel's Iron Man 3" and a slight improvement over "Captain America" and "The Incredible Hulk".

In U.S., "The Best Man Holiday" managed to open in second place with a very impressive USD 30 million. It is a Christmas comedy-drama written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee as a sequel to 1999's "The Best Man". The film sees the college friends finally reunite over the Christmas holidays, where they will discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited.

In third place is "Last Vegas", which is holding up quite well despite the fact that it is now in its third week and is a week away from beating "The Woman In Black" to become the highest-grossing movie ever for CBS Films.

In Malaysia, "Thor: The Dark World" is not the only film to repeat its box office streak, "Carrie" and "Ender's Game" also remains in second and third places respectively.

Tom Hanks as the titular Captain Phillips.

Surprisingly, in Singapore, Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks' "Captain Phillips" leads the box office chart while "Thor: The Dark World" falls to second place. The former tells how merchant mariner Captain Richard Phillips was taken hostage by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean during the Maersk Alabama hijacking in 2009 led by Abduwali Muse. "Ender's Game" rounds up the top three.

Other new releases in Malaysia last week are "Ram-Leela", "Pizza II: Villa", "The Second Sight", "Aku Pilih Kamu", "The Stolen Years", "Firefly" and "Free Birds".

Other new releases in Singapore last week are "Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela", "Make Your Move", "Real", "Kon-Tiki", "A Secret Between Us", "Justin And The Knights Of Valour", "3 Peas In A Pod" and "Perfect Mothers".
