27 Oct – English actor Tom Hardy is set to ditch the grit and put on rose-coloured glasses as Sir Elton Hercules John in Rocket Pictures' upcoming film titled "Rocketman".
According to Entertainment Weekly, the 36-year-old actor has been confirmed to play Elton John in the biographical feature film, which will be distributed in the U.S. by Focus Pictures.
Described as a "larger-than-life movie musical spectacle", "Rocketman" will recap the rise of child prodigy to music legend, with Elton John to re-record many of his iconic hit songs to match the tone of the film. In his five-decade career Elton John has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world.
The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, who is best known for directing commercials and the upcoming Fox film "The Greatest Showman On Earth" starring Hugh Jackman, and Disney's "The Muppet Man". Writing the screenplay is Academy Award nominee Lee Hall.
Tom Hardy has recently wrapped up filming for director Daniel Espinosa's "Child 44" and director Michael Roskam's "Animal Rescue". He will next appear in Steve Knight's "Locke" as Ivan Locke and George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road" as Mad Max.
